This is to inform you that the AlA’s Board of Directors
voted to accept on first reading the revisions proposed to the following public
policies:
• Licensing: A Basic Policy
• Licensing: Accredited Degree
Programs
• Licensing: Board Structure and
Composition
• Licensing: Enforcement
• Licensing: Interrelationship of
Architecture and Engineering
• Licensing: Professional Education
• Licensing: Practice Regulation
• Licensing: Title Registration
The AlA’s Rules of the Board call for a review of the Public
Policies for sunset every three years. These licensing policies were up for
review, and the AlA’s Licensing Committee suggested revisions. As the revisions
were substantial, and as licensing policies are of such importance to the local
AlA components, these revisions were submitted to you under the 60-day review
process in April of this year. As outlined in section 9.334 of the Rules of the
Board, components are now allowed the opportunity to submit additional comments
prior to second reading, which will occur in December: The section states:
“Management will prepare a discussion draft of all
new Public Policies or Position Statements or revisions to existing Policies or
Position Statements based on input from all appropriate sources both within and
outside the Institute. Not less than 60 days before first reading by the Board,
management will circulate the discussion draft proposed Public Policy or
Position Statement to all Directors, components, and relevant committees for
comment. If necessary, based on the comments received, management will prepare
a revised draft for consideration by the Board at first reading. Components
will be promptly notified of the Board’s action on first reading and of the
opportunity to submit additional comments prior to second readin’”
Attached please find copies of the revisions to these
policies. If you have additional comments to the ones submitted during the
initial 60-day review period, please send them to fax number (202) 626-7583, or email comments to
govaffs@aia.org.
